Double under reamed piles
INTRODUCTION Under reamed piles are made by C. B. R. I. ( Central Building Research Institute). They are made of R. C. C. In the bottom portion of the pile, enlarged portion is given which is called under reamed or bulb. If pile has one bulb, it is called single reamed, if the pile has two bulbs then it is called double reamed, and ifCalculate the quantity of concrete for the following. 2 Underreamed cast in situ pile of 300 mm dia. of 10. 00 m length. Underreamed pile foundations are bored cast insitu concrete piles with one or more bulbs or underreams. The bulb is formed by enlarging the stem of the pile near the bottom in a double conical shape, as shown in Fig. 20. 30. Conventional piles (a and b), single under reamed pile (c) and double under reamed pile (d) Pile geometries Four different geometries were chosen for the investigation, namely conventional bored cast in situ pile of two different shaft diameter, under reamed pile with a single bulb and under reamed piledouble under reamed piles An underreamed pile is a pile of shallow depth (1 to 6 m) having one bulb a its lower end. If this bulb is taken or provided at a level lower than the critical depth of moisture movement in expansive solis, the foundation will be anchored to the ground and it would not move with the movement (i. e. swelling and shrinkage) of the soil.
